C21. Smiths Parish Studio Apartment (sleeps 2)

There are two bus services to choose from the Middle Road and the South Shore routes. The house is situated on a generous portion of land, attractively landscaped with a sheltered pool that is lovely. Located half way between St.Georges and the main city of Hamilton (each approximately 20 minutes away), the closest beach is about 5 minutes up the South Shore Road at John Smiths Bay via mopeds or the bus. There is bus service up and down Collectors Hill where you can connect to the South Shore bus that will take you over to John Smiths Bay, or the tranquil Devonshire Bay. Into Hamilton, or on to St.Georges.

Mopeds can be rented from Smatts Cycle Livery and they will be delivered to the house upon your emailed or telephoned request. Wheels is a company who will also deliver mopeds: you can order these by phone on arrival. See links on my website for these and many other services including the spectacular WILDCAT boat ride around the island.

Shopping in the neighbourhood includes a supermarket at the junction of Collectors Hill and the South Shore Road, where there is a pharmacy and a great little family style café called The Speciality Inn. They will be happy to serve you delicious home cooked meals at very reasonable prices. Harrington Hundreds is another nearby supermarket with a fine selection of gourmet items, as well as liquor, beer and wine. They will deliver to the house for a fee. You pass Harrington Hundreds on the way to John Smiths Bay, so stop in and pick up fresh bread and cheese and some cool drinks on your way to the shore.

Drycleaners, a pizza parlour and a Post Office are also nearby. Flatts Village is five minutes away by bus or mopeds (and is delightful village) with nice places to eat (Rusticos is particularly pleasant), gift and other shops as well as the Aquarium and Zoo. Sports activities include tennis courts (which can be booked at reasonable rates) at Grotto Bay Resort, which is 10 minutes away by bus.

Golfers will enjoy the St. Georges Club and Ocean View in Devonshire. Midocean Golf Course is also available to non members from time to time: hone the morning you wish to go to see if there any slots open for you.

Spittal Pond is a south shore park on the way to John Smiths Bay that features a salt-water marsh and a spectacular section of the rugged rocky coastline. Here one can see the initial and the date of 1543 carved in stone at Spanish Rock. Hiking is enjoyable at Ferry Reach and St. Davids Head, two of the larger and more interesting parks. Consult your detailed Bermuda map, available at Bermuda Bookstores for $4.95 for clearly marked areas and the best road instructions for the out of the way lanes and side roads. Swimming and snorkelling are good on most beaches. However, Shelly Bay Beach (10 minutes away) is very safe, never has an undertow (as do many of the more turbulent South Shore beaches) and the caves around the headland offer excellent snorkelling. Tobacco Bay in St. Georges is a great beach year round - sheltered and with marvellous numbers of fish. Diving, sailing and windsurfing are all available at Grotto Bay and Castle Harbour, which are nearby.

The studio has 2 singles beds that make into a king.

The rates quoted are for accommodation only. No maid service is provided. Payment to the homeowner is by travellers checks or cash ONLY
