For those who enjoy a walk, there are the Old Bermuda Railway scenic trails from Somerset Bridge - about ten minutes from the cottage. The Trail is famous because vehicular traffic is not permitted: just hikers, cyclists and mopeds. The vista provides a unique glimpse at some of Bermuda's oldest homes and loveliest estates. Somerset Village is nearby - a charming hamlet with pretty shops and nice restaurants to enjoy. Beyond the village is the Naval Dockyard with Bermuda's maritime history preserved for you to happily explore. The acres of buildings and parkland is located on a headland with the most extraordinary views of the length of the island. Dockyard also features pretty craft shops and artisans at work, excellent locally produced books and pottery etc. and a wide array of pubs, cafes and luxurious carriage trade stores to browse through. The ferry stops here as well, so you can hop aboard and take a leisurely cruise into Hamilton with your mopeds in the hold.
The bus stop is just at the end of the road from the apartment, or you
can walk 10 minutes to the ferry stop at Somerset Bridge, the smallest
drawbridge in the world. There is a grocery store nearby, as well as all the usual facilities for sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and water skiing, fishing and para-sailing near Somerset Bridge and Ireland
Island. Tennis and golf courses (Port Royal and Riddell's Bay, as well
as the Southampton Princess) are conveniently located as well, and motor cycles can be delivered right to your front door.
There are a number of large and small hotels in the vicinity with fine
dining rooms you can enjoy for that special evening out. These would
include The Reefs Hotel and Cambridge Beaches. All over the island are
pretty little cafes where a nice lunch can be had in comfort, indoors or out. Small grocery stores are located in every parish, and many of them will deliver: just ask your hostess. Sandys and Somerset are charming locations for a holiday: come see us soon.
Arrangements for special tours can also be made if you decide to spend a rainy day hopping about the island from site to site. I have done this in the past and found it a very agreeable way to take the family swiftly from one location to another while we waited for the
sun to pop out again. There is reverse cycle air conditioner for wintertime use. You can drink the FRESH water on the island safely.
We offer free wireless high speed internet access.
The Somerset Bridge Post Office has free internet for people who do not have a laptop.
