Our pretty little apartment is but a 100 yards from the ocean which can be seen through the hedge…The sunrise bathes the front of the house and the private patio for your morning coffee. Swimming from shore is pleasant but we recommend swimming shoes as there are rocks to negotiate. The nearest sandy beach would be West Whale Bay, a very small cove strewn with seashells and with a gentle surf. Alternatively, one can catch the South Shore bus and proceed along to Church Bay or Horseshoe Bay, where umbrellas, beach chairs etc. can be rented and a concession stand operates. In the winter months, take your own little picnic and a book to enjoy the day. South Shore Beaches nearby include Warwick Long Bay, Church Bay etc. with jet ski rentals at The Waterlot Inn. Horseback riding is available too- and bowling! The pedestrian Railway Trail is lovely to explore and there are many churches and little shops in Somerset to visit. Golf Courses include the Southampton Princess, Riddell's Bay, Port Royal and the newly refurbished Belmont Hills.
Guests have easy access to major hotels and spa facilities at the Southampton Princess and The Reefs . Small and large restaurants, including The Whaler Inn, Jasmine, Wickets, Bacci, Cabana Bar & Grill, Windows on the Sound, Golf Hut; Wine Cellar; Island Cuisine; Tio Pepe; Mr. Chicken; Gibbs Hill Lighthouse Tea room, The Waterlot Inn, Henry VIII Pub, Island Cuisine, and the several dining establishments within the Southampton Princess ( including the fabled Newport Room.) mean there's no shortage of great places to enjoy a meal.
The public bus system is excellent will take you everywhere if you prefer not to use the rental mopeds. The Rockaway fast ferry stop is within walking distance for those needing to get to Hamilton in the morning. There is also a Mini bus service in the area: free at Rush hour, and with a nominal charge otherwise. The charming hamlet of Somerset Town is 10 minutes away with shops and cafes, and just beyond the town is the 200 year old Naval Dockyard, now converted into a museum and shopping concourse with pubs, crafts market, a parasail operation, charter boats, beach facilities, etc. Somerset Village is a charming hamlet with pretty shops and nice restaurants to enjoy. Ferry service back into Hamilton is regularly scheduled in addition to the bus service. There are very elegant hotels and fine dining available at this end of the island as well - one does not have to go into Hamilton to enjoy a good meal or cabaret. W08 is located near W26, W15, W01 , W10 and W07 for guests who want to be near friends but enjoy a little privacy. All over the island are pretty little cafes where a nice lunch can be had in comfort indoors or out. Small grocery stores are located in every parish, and many of them will deliver groceries as well as beer, wine and spirits: just ask the cab driver for the name of the obliging outlet nearby.
We encourage you to bring along a box of frozen and prepared treats. You can import all foodstuffs for personal use without difficulty providing you do not bring in fresh produce or fresh seafood. Bringing coffee, tea, biscuits, condiments, tinned and packaged delectables as well as frozen steaks and fish will save you time, trouble and expense upon arrival. On your way in from the airport, I suggest you have your taxi driver stop off at the nearest market to pick up perishables such as milk, eggs and baked goods. For guests staying at this location, Smatts Cycle Livery located at the Southampton Princess is very convenient.
