Cavello Ferry stop is a 5 minute walk away, and the bus stop about a 3 minute walk. Catching a bus out to attractions such as Dockyard is easy (there is good ferry service from Dockyard as well) – have a look at schedules and routes under “Transit Information” in our “For Your Information” section of the website.

When its time to head out for dinner or to explore the island further, you have a very short walk right into Somerset village. In addition to restaurants, the village has a post office (where you can get bus-ferry passes), bank, pharmacy, and a grocery store.

From the property, a grocery store is about a 5 minute drive. Restaurants in Somerset are a short 3 minute drive (or 5 minute walk), with additional fabulous dining options in Dockyard and at the many fine restaurants down the south shore including Pompano, The Reefs, Henry VIII, the Fairmont Southampton (5 restaurants there including the fabled Newport Room), the Waterlot Inn, Willowbank and many others. In Somerset, enjoy casual dining at the Country Squire (a cute pub/bar right on the water), Traditions Café and the Frog and Onion Pub. For more elegant fare you can go over to Cambridge Beaches Resort, with the kind of reputation that makes ex-presidents of the USA want to come and sample their fantastic cooking.

Interesting places to see in the vicinity would include Dockyard. The extraordinary installation features a collection of spectacular buildings erected for navy re-provisioning in the very early 1800′s. The Maritime Museum out at Dockyard on Ireland Island has fascinating displays of items from Bermuda’s extraordinarily colorful past, fully restored. The Commissioners House is an iron structure with the most commanding view of the island to be seen anywhere- from end to end. Other handsome buildings now house art galleries, museums, cafes, artist’s workshops, theaters and pubs as well as a major ferry stop that will whisk you into Hamilton and on to St. Georges. Heading east by road towards Hamilton, you will be charmed with the town of Somerset- it has a post office and pharmacy, nice places to dine and little shops where you can re-provision while admiring the views and the mangrove-edged beach. Ely’s Harbour at Somerset Bridge has a small marina where you can rent boats and explore the multitude of small islands just offshore including Cathedral Rocks.

A bus-ferry pass to get around would be a good thing to have if mopeds are not your style! The Railway Trail is nearby as well, and offers a peek into Old Bermuda, as the trail wends away from the main road and past some fascinating old homes and farms with jaw dropping views. The grand beaches at Horseshoe, Warwick Long Bay and Elbow are a short bus or moped ride away and some are serviced public beaches with cafes, beach chair and umbrella rentals available. The local Supermarket is close by as well and spirits are sold until 9pm, and groceries can be purchased there until midnight. The Somerset Bridge Post Office has free internet for people who do not have a laptop.

The Southampton Princess Golf Course, Port Royal and Riddells Bay are all in the western end of the island. Port Royal Golf Course (home of the PGA) is about a 12 minute drive from this property. Please see our “For Your Information” section for further information regarding prices and making reservations.

House rentals require a lease, and a security damage deposit. The balance payment is made 6 weeks in advance of the tenancy commencement. We read the electricity meter at the beginning and at the end of your visit: included in the price is $200.00 a week’s worth of power and if you go over that, the overage is deducted from the damage deposit. Electricity costs 330% more in Bermuda than in the USA, and you are requested and expected to conserve by turning off air conditioning when you go out, hanging clothes on the line to dry whenever possible etc. Included is an allotment of $200.00 a week’s worth of water as well. Water is collected from rain showers and stored in tanks: theres no municipal supply. Its delicious and safe to drink but its expensive to replenish tanks if they run dry . These power and water allocations are considered generous for your comfort. We just ask you to respect island conservation measures at all times.

There is a boat rental nearby at the dock in Mangrove Bay. Lasers, kayaks, Boston Whalers and all the snorkel gear you’ll need for rent is available there.
Key points of interest are the Crystal caves (http://www.bermuda.com/caves/), and The Royal Naval dockyard, and Maritime museum (http://www.bermuda.com/attractions/dockyard).

No power adapter is required for North American guests.

Electricity costs 4 times more in Bermuda!
You are expected to conserve.

Our family had a wonderful, relaxing stay at this house. The views are excellent, access to private beach is a huge plus and the privacy is, well, what we had hoped for. The house itself is equipped with everything we needed …. when we wanted to cook in, we did; and when we didn’t, we were off enjoying different parts of Bermuda. The house is clean and well kept, comfortable and inviting. Meeting the homeowner and his wife was a real treat for all of us… they are great people. There is a ferry slip within walking distance of the house — great for a jump to Hamilton or the Dockyard. Buses, taxis, etc are just down the road. We love the experience of staying in private homes, and this one is a gem. We can’t wait to return… (Hats off to your rental company. You run a wonderfully professional operation.)

We had a wonderful week. [Mr. W, the taxi driver], recommended by you, took us all over the Island and was the best tour guide I have encountered. We swam with the dolphins at Dockyard, had a spa afternoon at the Princess Hamilton, went out on a small boat ride run by an amazing guy named Tony, shopped in Hamilton, ate wonderful rockfish, sea chowder, mahi mahi…. The singing frogs at night were very soothing, and the beach for the villa was fun to explore at low tide.

The home was perfect and the owner so nice, no issues at all, the balconies and the views were my favorite second only to the people on the Island. Many fun adventures, laughs, relaxation….. Thanks much Fiona.

We were thrilled with our visit. The house was comfortable, plenty of room for all, and so well stocked, we didn’t lack for anything in kitchen or bath. The location was great for the bus and not too bad for groceries. The neighbors were so nice and we really felt like we could be part of the community for 10days. We have raved to everyone about your rental service and do hope to return as still have so much of Bermuda to explore.
