A handsome, modern home built to capture the jaw dropping views over the sound and its gorgeous collection of little islands and secret coves. The house is beautifully situated on two acres of land (a veritable estate by Bermudian standards) on a hill overlooking the water, with a large pool spread invitingly across the front lawns for maximum sunset enjoyment and night-sky stargazing.

Inside you will find a comfortable King bed (a pair of twin beds combined) in the Pool Side Unit, and a Queen bed in the Garden Unit, which is a spacious studio, and the Poolhouse Unit has a Queen bed. For an additional guest, a blow up mattress can be provided to ensure a comfortable nights sleep.

Located about midway between the city of Hamilton and the town of St. George’s, the studio apartments are handsomely furnished in crisp modern décor, and offer guests an unparalleled private and quiet experience. Each apartment is perfect for two people, and provides a beautiful view of the sunrise over the sound without getting out of bed. The full kitchen permits the preparation of meals at any time. Cocktails at sunset on the back lawn is a wonderful way to wrap up the day.

King bed in one unit, queen bed in the other units, each fully equipped with air conditioning and ceiling fans. Coffee makers are provided in each unit.

The pool and kayaks are available for your use in Harrington Sound directly off the waters edge on the property.

In the Garden and Pool units, Cable TV is enjoyed on a 42″ screen, as well as a fully equipped kitchen, internet service (500Mbps - the opportunity to increase speed is available if the tenant pays for the upgrade), clock radio, hair dryer, barbecue, private telephone and laundry for guests visiting for 8 nights or more.

The poolhouse has cable TV, free WIFI, air-conditioning, full bath with shower,

The home owner is the perfect host, providing great advice on restaurants, and permitting guests to use the pool whenever required as long as other guests are not disturbed. Guests are permitted to use the two-person kayak to explore the unique geology of the Sound, understanding that any damage to the boat is brought to the home owner’s attention and paid for. The owners enjoy having guests who appreciate traditional hospitality.

Their busy professional careers mean you’ll have the house pretty much to yourself during the day, although the pool may be visited when they get home for a refreshing dip.

Nearby Attractions

The bus stop at the top of Radnor Road allows guests to roam the island at will, and the walk to Shelly Bay (about 10 minutes from the house on foot) provides for some of the best snorkeling on the island. The Supermarket is a 5-minute walk from the property. Flatts Aquarium is a bus ride of about 5 minutes heading west, and the Crystal Caves are the same distance heading east. Our bus stop is a leisurely 5-minute walk from the house. There is no maid service, although this can be arranged for extended visits at an additional rate. The units are self-catering, and we are pleased to provide ample fresh towels and sheets for your visit. The home owner or their housekeeper will meet you at the house and make you welcome!

Bus transportation into Hamilton or St. George’s takes 15 minutes on Route 11, one of the island’s most frequent services. Shopping in the neighbourhood includes a supermarket at the Shelly Bay Plaza and a small convenience store at the gas station at the end of Radnor Road. One half mile away there is another convenience store open until midnight. Grocery stores also sell liquor, wines and beer. Drycleaners, a pizza parlour and a Post Office are nearby. Flatts Village is five minutes away by bus (and is delightful village) with nice places to eat (Rustico’s is particularly enjoyed by locals and visitors alike), gift and other shops, and the Aquarium and Zoo with Geological Museum which are well worth a visit. Sports activities include tennis courts (which can be booked at reasonable rates) at Grotto Bay, which is five minutes away by bus.

Nearest convenience store is Twins Variety on Flatts Hill – open early and till late evenings, and Harrington Hundreds Grocery – 5 minutes from Flatts on bike, and a veritable emporium of delectable imported goodies. The Specialty Inn on South Road at Collectors Hill is a 5-minute moped ride from Flatts for family style eating in unpretentious but comfortable surroundings.

Harrington Sound is ringed with gorgeous homes overlooking the placid waters of the sound. One can snorkel comfortably there or play with the parasail company that operates in the sound. There are fine dining establishments nearby such as the renowned Tom Moore’s Tavern and the Swizzle Inn for drinks and snacks. For leisurely tours on your mopeds exploring the glorious countryside of Tucker’s Town with its spectacular homes is always fun as is the remarkable Verdmont Museum high on a hill overlooking the south shore. 

Hiking is enjoyable at Ferry Reach and St. David’s Head, two of the larger and more interesting parks. There is also Spittal Pond Bird Sanctuary and endless coastline areas to walk, the Railway Trail and the sumptuous Parks of the south shore. Consult the map for clearly marked areas and consider purchasing the Davidson book of Bermuda Hikes as listed on the website. There are many wonderful books on Bermuda at the Bermuda Book Shop in Hamilton near the policeman’s Bird-cage and the Irish Linen Shop on Front Street.

Swimming and snorkeling are good on most beaches. However, Shelly Bay Beach 15 minutes from the property is very safe, never has an undertow (as do many of the more turbulent South Shore beaches) and the caves around the headland offer excellent snorkeling. John Smith’s Bay is lovely as well, and Clearwater Beach out in St. George’s near the old NASA station is legendary. You may chose to wend your way along the South Shore all the way out to the fabled surf of Elbow Beach, Horseshoe Bay and Warwick Long Bay- its a spectacular drive with astounding views around every corner. 

Tobacco Bay in St. George’s is a great beach year round – sheltered and with marvelous numbers of fish. Diving, sailing and windsurfing are all available at Grotto Bay Resort which is nearby and at other facilities around the island. See our website for these and many other useful services.

Please note: when renting these privately owned apartments, cottages and houses, we expect you to treat these accommodations as if they were home of a cherished friend of yours. The property is to be left clean and tidy upon departure with dishes washed and put away and garbage neatly bundled. We don’t ask you to spend your last day cleaning but we do ask you to leave the property presentable so the home owner can run in and make ready for guests that may be arriving within a couple of hours of your departure.
