Our beautiful studio apartment is located in an exclusive enclave on the fabled South Shore Road in Smith’s Parish. Part of the estate is gem of a beach – deep soft sands and fantastic snorkelling, used only by the owners of the homes in the development.
Equipped with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a kitchenette with stove, under-counter fridge, microwave, a coffee maker and Keurig, we also have a hair dryer available in the shower-equipped bathroom. WiFi internet and a BBQ available, along with beach towels, two beach chairs and an umbrella. An iron & board, and laundry facilities can be made available to guests staying 7 nights or longer. A queen bed and a small single bed are provided.
The beach is the great asset of this location: it is not more than 100 feet from the apartment across parkland green space. There is a railing and steps leading down the rocks to assist you to the sand (see photos above) – please be careful as it is a steep hill and also while climbing over the rocks. Watershoes would be useful at this location.
No maid services but fresh linens will be supplied as required. A Twizy charging station has just been installed for a guests interested in renting a Twizy car.
Nearby Attractions
6 minutes east of the house by bus or moped is John Smith’s Bay. John Smith’s Bay is a well kept local secret- a quiet beach with deep soft pink sands that slope into quiet waters without the buffeting of heavy wave action or undertows. Smith’s Parish is adjacent to the Hamilton Parish enclave of the rich and famous in Tucker’s Town. You’ll enjoy touring this area with its magnificent homes, vast wooded hills and the sweeping golf courses. Lunch or dinner can be enjoyed at the Tucker’s Point Resort or Tom Moore’s Tavern when you feel like an elegant night out.
Bus stop heading west to Hamilton is just a couple-minutes walk away near St. Mark’s Church. Nearby (5 minutes by bus) is the most excellent Harrington Hundreds Grocery, a fine food emporium distinguishing themselves further by offering a full delivery service including beer, wine and spirits. Specialty Inn, a family style restaurant, is in the same mini plaza at the crossroads of South Shore Road and Collector’s Hill. You may see movie stars here too – its down-home atmosphere belies the delicious local fare that is served here. Flatts Village is about a 5 minute ride away overland: Rustico, one of the best Italian restaurants on the island is located in the village as is Pizza Chef (they do home deliveries) and a fantastic sandwich shop. The 1926 Aquarium is a small zoo and museum with an exceptional set of displays, cafe and lovely gift and book shop. Other good restaurants in the area would include dining at Pink Beach Resort near John Smith’s Bay. The tidal wash under the little bridge at Flatts and the outlet from Harrington Sounds is always interesting to observe.
Spittal Pond Nature Reserve is an extraordinary park: migratory birds flock to the marsh, sunk between the coastal hills and the ridge along which the South Road meanders.
If you enjoy hiking, pick up the Davidson Tour Book featured on the website. Bermuda also has an Arboretum, Underwater Institute, Crystal Caves, and the Botanical Gardens to investigate in ways and areas that most visitors never get to see.
Bus-ferry passes are purchased at Post offices- or at the Aquarium and its a good idea to stop the taxi and run in to purchase them on your way in from the airport.
Bermudians are always trying to conserve precious electricity. The air-conditioner is the big ticket item so don't leave it on all day when you are out. It only takes a few minutes to restore comfort on your return and it saves our homeowner from giant power bills.
PLEASE NOTE: Bus service stops after 6pm. Purchase ferry- bus passes and remember that you can take the #10 or #11 bus back from Hamilton or St. George’s late at night to Flatts Village and the taxi fare back to the house is only $12.00 approximately plus tip.
