Once a simple shipping warehouse and carpentry shop perched waterside in the ancient town of St. George’s, the home owner chose to renovate the historic listed building, built in the 1860’s and long held by his family. With some very thoughtful additions (such as the handsome wrap- around exceptionally deep verandah and the classic welcoming arms staircase), the interiors were brought up to the highest modern standards.

If you love 150 year old Honduran pitch pine floors, robust cedar rafters holding up beamed ceilings, all the original doors and original bricks cleverly reused in the completely reorganized space, you will relish being the guest in this immaculate home. Reflecting the owners extensive travels, the house is filled with accents collected and adjudicated to fit flawlessly into the house. Tucked away on the waterfront, overlooking the harbour and with access to the neighbour’s little beach, you will be close to fine dining, public transportation (the ferry system and bus) and able to walk to collect groceries and supplies.

We ask that guests are sparing with electricity, water, and towels. Extra towels are available but they must be laundered by guests. 2 kayaks are available (1 x 17′ sea kayak and 1 x 23′ double kayak), as well as umbrellas and swimming noodles.

The house has 2 bedrooms, a King in the master and a King/2 Singles in the second bedroom as well as 2 en suite bathrooms on the ground floor downstairs: a spacious kitchen with a French press coffee maker, microwave, Subzero fridge, Viking gas stove and Bosch dishwasher, living room, study and powder room facility on the main floor upstairs, and enormous balcony-verandah overlooking handsome gardens filled with flowers and the beckoning ocean…

Roll-away bed can be provided for a fifth guest for an extra $50.00 per night. There is a local land line phone, WiFi (125 Mbps- the opportunity to increase speed is available if the tenant pays for the upgrade), laundry machines with outdoor line for drying, cable TV & UK Apple TV available, DVD/Blu-ray & CD players, hair dryer and a charcoal BBQ. There are also 2 Twizy car charging stations.

Nearby Attractions

The former capital of Bermuda, the Town of St. George’s will take you back nearly 400 years to 1612. Now a World Heritage Site, the town is the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the English New World.

Buses run into Hamilton and beyond, and there is a ferry service into Hamilton as well. As the island is only 22 miles long, even at the sedate pace of 14 to 20 miles an hour, you can explore the entire island comfortably from your taxi, on the mopeds or by public transportation. For golfers, the Mid Ocean Golf Course or the new Tucker’s Point Resort (with some lovely dining options as well) are about 15 minutes away by taxi or bus. Ocean View in Devonshire, as well as many others further west (see website homepage for details) welcome last minute tee time inquiries as well!

Good shopping, restaurants, the waterfront, museums, churches, Segway Tours, beautiful beaches (Tobacco Bay, Achilles Bay, Fort St. Catherine’s Beach etc.) and the pubs and cafes are all located within walking distance. St. George’s has every convenience for the visitor combined with a beautiful harbour setting. There is a shuttle service available in St. George’s, and the main bus service is about a 5 minute walk and will take you to all points on the island. For the independent adventurer, there are several cycle liveries close by for those wanting to rent scooters or pedal bikes. Boat and land tours are available as well.

Dockyard (at the furthest western point of the island) is another splendid collection of buildings dating from the early 1800’s used by the British Navy to re-provision their ships. Now converted to museums, shops and artisans studios, a trip to Dockyard is a must- and to get there by ferry will combine the pleasures of a cruise, with stunning scenery and a fascinating glimpse into Bermuda’s colonial past.

Essential details: A lease is required and payments are made in advance of your arrival. There is a refundable damage security deposit of $1,000.00 per week of occupancy.

No maid service, self-catering only. No pets permitted. Small children need to be closely watched due to the proximity to the water. Members of the family occasionally pop by to use the beach but will not be intrusive. A local contact person will meet you at the house and is on call if you need assistance with the house facilities.

Ideal spot

We had a spectacular time at E31! It was the ideal spot to reconnect with my boys before they headed off to college. Once again, thank you for helping us with a wonderful vacation. Great memories!

Loved it!

Our vacation was simply spectacular! The home was beautiful and so well-equipped. We couldn’t have asked for a more stunning view of the water or more comfortable accommodations. We enjoyed the artwork, the books and movies, the porch, the grounds...and the gorgeous kitchen! The short walk into St. George’s made it easy to have a waterfront dinner, grab some groceries, rent scooters, or hop on the bus to Hamilton. We loved every minute of our time in Bermuda. Until we return, we’ll be dreaming about this vacation!

Your home is stunning, it feels a privilege to stay here even though we’re paying guests! We studied the history of what you’ve created and we congratulate you on an exquisite renovation. What imagination and creative vision. Needless to say the surround porch is the standout feature. (I’ve renovated a dozen barns in the UK and revel in the pride of having done a good job) We enjoyed chicken Korma, courtesy of Hairy Bikers, sitting on the east side watching the pink sun set in the sky. (…and courtesy of the spices available to cook with. We’re foodies like you.) I grew up in Hong Kong, and having visited Thailand Indonesia and many other Asian countries, I appreciate the many features you’ve incorporated into your home. The doors are just breathtaking, especially the one to the master bedroom. The Eastern flair and setting of E31, right on the water makes it feel like a retreat, it’s almost holistic. Certainly it’s calmed the tension I normally feel with the weight of business and daily life. Your attention to detail captures exactly the right look or mood, – it’s perfect!

We loved our weeklong stay at the E31 house. The location is beautiful and serene; we spent countless hours enjoying the water view, reading, and talking on the wraparound veranda. We also swam every day off of the dock and the small beach on the property. Our infant daughter enjoyed playing on the beach and in the water, which was very calm. The house is gorgeous and full of character both inside and out- we truly enjoyed the artwork and collections from around the world as well as the gourmet, fully equipped kitchen. St. George was within a ten minute walk but most nights we preferred to stay at the house and eat dinner outside. We also enjoyed exploring the extensive gardens. The host’s family, who live in other homes on the property, could not have been more welcoming. They were gracious and helpful when our daughter got very sick and even offered to take us to the urgent care facility on a weekend. We appreciated that they went the extra mile for their guests. Bermuda is a lovely place to visit and you couldn’t do better than the E31 house for a relaxing, comfortable, and beautiful home base.

We loved the house. The patio was incredible, especially with bad weather you can just go on which ever side of house is protected. Getting up and sitting on patio having coffee and breakfast and looking out on St George’s harbour was great. How quiet it was, is remarkable. Just sit and listen to the silence, and maybe a read a book. Location was great, the impressive photos and St George’s location was key to our decision. The ability to just walk to St George’s is impressive. The small Supermarket grocery store was great, to stock up on items, this is a huge convenience. I think Bermuda’s unique quality is how many places there are to snorkel. Little did I realize that there were 2 wrecks right next to E31. It was a great morning swim, as I went around I enjoyed the snorkel but in turn had a great swim/workout to get the day going.. We also went to John smiths bay, this was a real gem. Right at that corner was a variety of fish and very mature coral formations, we snorkelled and soon were 1/4 mile offshore. It is like a coral garden from the reefs offshore, right at your fingertips. The fact that this quality of coral is so accessible is truly amazing and there a very few places in the world where this occurs. E31 was great, and I also think it would be a great for a family vacation.

Fantastic home! We had an amazing time there and the location is perfect, a short walk to a corner store, shops, ferry terminal and the bus stop is right up the driveway. The house and property allows a relaxing and private setting for a stress free getaway. For anyone who enjoys history, art and literature, this home is a rare treat and truly and experience. Thanks again to the owner’s family for their hospitality and we look forward to coming back next year.
