Our lovingly restored 1 bedroom cottage in Paget Parish overlooks the Hamilton Harbour and the city, and it has a dock for swimming (the garden/dock area cannot be used by guests during the pandemic). Only a 15 minute walk to Elbow Beach.
This wonderful cottage offers air-conditioning, cable TV, Wifi (125Mbps, the opportunity to increase speed is available if the tenant pays for the upgrade), telephone (for local calls only), a charcoal BBQ, and there is even access to the water! 180 degree water views directly over the Harbour, use of private dock (the garden/dock area cannot be used by guests during the pandemic), patio lounging chairs, sun loungers, outdoor table and chairs, sun umbrella and hammock. The cottage is situated behind the main house and is therefore very quiet and totally protected from traffic.
The property does not suit children. Pets are welcome with a $250 deposit paid on arrival to cover the costs of deep cleaning the apartment after departure. Please be advised that the homeowners do have a Miniature Schnauzer dog in the main house.
Full kitchen: Fridge/freezer, electric range, microwave, toaster oven, electric kettle, toaster, cafetiere (French press coffee pot) and a standard-drip coffee maker in the kitchen. There is cable TV in the living room and a private charcoal kettle BBQ for the cottage.
No maid service: cleaning materials supplied and maid service for an extra charge. The Cottage is completely independent and self-catering. It consists of a living room with an open wood-burning fireplace. There are steps up to the bedroom above and steps down to a private terrace overlooking the water. Off the living room is a fully-equipped eat-in kitchen and the small bathroom which has a generous-sized shower (no tub) and heated towel rail for dry towels. Beach towels will be provided.
Up the stairs is the loft-style bedroom and dressing room. There is a king size bed and lovely water views on three sides. Furnishings are simple but comfortable and comprehensive. There are extensive grounds and a private dock for swimming (the garden/dock area cannot be used by guests during the pandemic) and sun bathing. There is reverse cycle air-conditioning for use ONLY AT NIGHT if needed. There is also a variable speed ceiling fan in the bedroom.
The house is a fresh and spacious home in the centre of every attraction available locally: the beach, the main town of Hamilton, and easy access to transportation west to Somerset and the attractions of Dockyard (museums, pubs, dolphins!) or east to Crystal Caves, Flatts Village and St George’s- and all the parks and beaches in between… Perhaps most importantly, the house is situated close to the greatest length of coastal beaches on the island. The fabled South Shore commences with Grape Bay and Elbow Beach, and carries on, uninterrupted, to the west through Warwick to Southampton Parish to Church Bay. One bus meandering down that coastline will give you a new beach to fall in love with every day for 10 days. One of the other great attractions of the cottage is its proximity to the main city of Hamilton. Such a location well suits the business traveler, for shopping and the cute bars and places to dine.
Beach chairs are rented at Elbow Beach from May onwards. The closest restaurants are Mickeys On The Beach at the Elbow Beach Resort, Sanzibar and Beau Rivage at Newstead Resort (the Newstead Resort also offers a spa). If you are looking for a convenience store, the closest would be Lindos or A1 Supermarket. Oleander’s is nearby for moped rentals, and the closest bus stop is a 5 minute walk away on Middle Road, by the end of Chapel Road. The nearest ferry stop is Hodson’s Ferry stop near Newstead, no more than a 5 minute walk from C108.
Paget Parish features immaculately manicured gardens, handsome and historically significant estates with magnificent gardens, glamorous hotels, flowers and pretty little roadside shops, galleries, cafes and churches everywhere you look.
A short walk takes one to the #7 bus route which travels along South Shore Road. The spectacular Elbow Beach Hotel offers lunch, bar services, evening dining and entertainment for a night out.
Nearby Amenities
Modern Mart Grocery Store. Paraquet Restaurant family style diner is a 15 minute walk. High end dining facilities nearby would include the various restaurants at the Elbow Beach Hotel, Four Ways Inn, The Reefs, Blu at the Belmont Golf Course, The Fairmont Princess Hotel and The Waterlot, as well as many others in Hamilton. There are some very good roadside cafes and pubs too.
Smatt’s Cycle Livery or Oleander Cycles will come and pick guests up who want to use mopeds.
Full flight details are required for pick up service at the airport: the taxi fare is not included but will be a metered driver. Golf arrangements can also be made.
Laundry facilities are provided, but clothes are line dried whenever possible due to the formidable cost of electricity (which is generated by the burning of Venezuelan oil in Bermuda). Ample linens are provided. Guests are asked to turn off air-conditioning and electric lights when they go out, and to conserve water at all times to help keep overheads low. There is a strict no smoking policy in effect. There is a smoke alarm fitted, a fire blanket and two small fire extinguishers in the kitchen. The home owner is not liable for any loss, damage or personal injury while the guests are on this property. Guests must take steps to ensure that they have adequate insurance to cover such eventualities and be aware of this stipulation. We ask guests to switch off lights and the AC when they go out, and be parsimonious with the water so precious island resources may be preserved.
