Nearby Attractions

John Smith’s Bay is about a 10 minute walk from the house and is a well-kept local secret- a quiet beach with deep soft pink sands that slope into quiet waters without the buffeting of heavy wave action or undertows. Smith’s Parish is adjacent to the Hamilton Parish enclave of the rich and famous in Tucker’s Town- you’ll enjoy touring this area with its magnificent homes, vast wooded hills and the sweeping golf courses.

The bus service by C55 runs every 30 minutes. There is a bus stop heading west to Hamilton just a couple of minutes walk from the property, across from Watch Hill Park. There is another bus stop down by Harrington Hundreds Grocery which is a fine food emporium, distinguishing themselves by offering a full delivery service including beer, wine and spirits. Bus stops heading east towards St. George’s or the airport are on the property’s side of South Road, across from Watch Hill Park. The Specialty Inn, a family style restaurant with delicious hamburgers, is about a 5 minutes ride down South Road at the crossroads of South Shore Road and Collector’s Hill. You may see movie stars here too: its down-home atmosphere belies the delicious local fare that is served here.

Flatts Village is also about a 5 minutes ride away: Rustico, one of the best Italian restaurants on the island is located in the village, as is Pizza Chef (which delivers). The 1926 Aquarium, small zoo and museum can also be found in Flatts: a delectable, small scale exploration of what the island is and has been in the past. The tidal wash under the little bridge at Flatts and the outlet from Harrington Sounds is always interesting to observe. Other good restaurants in the area would include Tom Moore’s Tavern, Ariel Sands and the dining at Pink Beach.

St. Mark’s Anglican church and St. Patrick’s Catholic church also about 5 minutes ride from here on South Road. The South Shore Road in this area heading east toward John Smith’s and Tucker’s Town (Mid Ocean Golf Club) is relatively quiet, as it’s not a major through road, so it’s great for walking along the coastal road admiring ocean views at every turn.

Spittal Pond Nature Reserve is only 5 minutes walk from the house and is an extraordinary park in that migratory birds flock to the marsh, sunk between the coastal hills and the ridge along which the South Road meanders.

If you enjoy hiking, pick up the Davidson tour book featured on the website. Bermuda has an Arboretum, a Botanical Garden to investigate, and no end of fascinating out of the way areas most visitors never get to see. There are plenty of taxis at the airport- we have a few we like to refer you to because they have provided exceptional services to guests in the past- just ask us to refer you on to them. Tell driver that the house is on South Shore, Smith’s, short distance past John Smith’s Beach. You don’t need to use phone cards to call locally: use the house phone – rates are listed in the house information package. The house doesn’t get good cell reception anyway.

Paper towels etc. are all at the house and available at the grocery store as well. We also leave some general drug store items, such as band aids etc. in the cabinets. The owners leave an information package including brochures/maps, and you can get any additional information at the various tourist kiosks around the island. Tennis courts can be reserved at Grotto Bay Resort. Pomander Gate Tennis Club in Paget offers temporary memberships to visitors for $35 for the week. Courts can be booked Mon-Fri in mornings and possibly early afternoons which are non-peak times for the regular members.

We have a property manager who will run errands for you but please note: his charges are above and beyond the rental rates. If you leave belongings behind or want to arrange something extra to be delivered to the house, you will be presented with a bill for his hourly rates and services and it will be paid in cash on the spot, or deducted from your damage deposit. Please note that this house requires a lease and a deposit that includes a refundable $1,000.00/week damage security payment. The balance is paid 8 weeks prior to the tenancy commencing.

Fantastic holiday

The house was really confortable and fully equipped, me, my family and our friends really enjoyed our stay. Unfortunatly the weather was not of the best but the remaining days we visited all the beaches and filled up our eyes with their stunning beauty.

Lovely place

The house was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We enjoyed John Smith’ s as well as Horseshoe Bay and Tobacco Bay. John Smith was a bit crowded on the weekend with locals, but during the week it was practically empty, which was nice. We ate mostly at the house but did enjoy a dinner in St. George and one at the dockyard. Just FYI The bus system was not as predictable/reliable as in past years, so taxis were preferable this trip. Harringtons was nice and convenient to walk to. Overall a very nice stay.

Best place

A beautiful week in PARADISE!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful views, perfect location and wonderfully equipt home! It has been a stunning week of discovery & fun for our family. This is our first "just us" family vacation in a decade, and we couldn't have been more pleased with our whole experience. We ALL VOTED and the BEST restaurant on the whole island is your front porch! The stars are AMAZING! Best snorkelling - John Smith's and best central location is C55! We will be back!! Thank you!

The perfect place

Oh my goodness! We - I, my husband, Frank, and our daughters and friend came to Bermuda to meet our son who raced Tobor Boy in the Marron Bermuda race. We have had the very nicest time! We've come to the island before, but for corporate events (not at all the same as a vacation!) we have scooted all over, done beach time, eaten well and filled our eyes with the beauty of this special place. And the house! Perfect! All together a perfect family time! Thank you

Highly recommend staying at Oceanside (C55)

My wife and I, along with our 18-year-old son and his friend, spent a glorious week on Bermuda, and the house was the ideal base from which to enjoy it. The house is well-appointed and spacious with a glorious view over the open ocean. The reservation and leasing process was easy, and the property manager, was so nice and extremely helpful. Because we were travelling with young men who tended to sleep in until nearly noon each day, my wife and I thoroughly appreciated our quiet mornings at the house, drinking coffee in the sun on the lawn, gazing out onto the blue sea. We were able to comfortably eat in on a few nights, simply grilling burgers or chicken. The nearby John Smith's Bay is an easy walk, and we managed a couple of swims there after dinner with the beautiful beach all to ourselves. When we did go out to eat, our favorites were Village Pantry in Flatts and the Pink Beach Club at the Loren, both of which were within a 10 minute moped ride of the house. Because the house is relatively far away from Hamilton and the popular beaches in Southampton, mobility is important when staying here. My wife and I lost our nerve on the mopeds after three days, but luckily, we secured a Twizy minicar rental. The recharging outlet at the house was an added convenience for us at that point. The upside to the remote location of the house is quiet and solitude. We really appreciated being removed from all the tourist hustle and bustle. The house was perfect for us. The WiFi was strong and A/C kept us as cool as needed. The photos here on the website are accurate, and everything worked as described. My only complaint, and it's minor, would be that the showers were a little weak on pressure. We used a grocery service called Go!ceries (www.go-ceriesonline.com) to deliver basics on our arrival day, and they did a great job for us. All in all, we would highly recommend this house for your stay on Bermuda!

Wonderful stay

C55 was just what we needed as a family of 5, and even with the great reviews from previous guests the house exceeded our expectations. The house was very comfortable, the kitchen great for us since we like to cook as a family (and one family member is a chef), and we can not say enough about the views! Sitting on the porch looking out over the sea was our favorite spot of all, for morning coffee/tea, dinner, and a majority of the time we were at the house. It was also great to be able to walk to John Smith's Bay beach and the Harrington Hundreds grocery store so when we didn't want to hop in a car we could still do things we loved. We also had great support and service, and found a new friend in the property manager, and the rental agency staff for making the whole experience awesome. We would all love to go back, and this house helped us fall in love with Bermuda as well. And thanks to the homeowners' for your welcoming home!

Wonderful time at the perfect house

We had a wonderful time- your house is perfect and the view unsurpassed. We had 14 days of exploring every nook and cranny. Our favorites are St. Catherine's Beach and Cooper's Reserve. We highly recommend both of them. Also, we used the Hitch App (like Uber) and I would advise all to use. Thank you for taking good care of us and the house.
