RATE INCLUDES reasonable electricity and water consumption, understanding always that these are precious and scarce utilities and that everyone in Bermuda conserves assiduously by turning lights and A/C off when you go out and never letting taps run on. Locking up is the same prudent exercise in Bermuda as it is when you leave your own home; close the windows and leave the unit secure please. Included are local telephone calls but long distance calls will require a calling card. Check with your cell phone provider to see if your phone will operate overseas and arrange a good plan before you go so as to avoid hefty charges. It is customary to leave a gratuity for the maid.

A car charging station is available for guests.

Nearby Attractions

The property is located a short 5 min walk from the historic town of St. George’s, with a fantastic choice of restaurants, bars, and shopping.

There is the Supermart, a convenience store called “Ample Hamper” and there is also a pharmacy nearby, which is about a 5 minute walk from the property. After a day of sightseeing in St. George’s, groceries can be picked up on your way “home” from Somers Market. We suggest bringing frozen steaks or fish and some liquor/wine/beer with you as you are allowed to import some for your own use.

There are two bus stops near the property, which are a two minute walk, and a 10 minute walk. The ferry stop isn’t far either, about a 5 minute walk from the cottage! There are also buses leaving from the nearby town centre regularly heading over to the west part of the island, including the capital city of Hamilton.

A shuttle service operates into St. George’s. Bus/ferry passes are obtained by stopping off at the post office on your way to the cottage or stepping into the local post office.

Tobacco Bay is a 12 minute walk from the cottage, which is a great beach for snorkelling in the calm waters. St. Catherine’s Beach and Blackbeard’s Beach are both a 15 minute walk from the property, and Clearwater Beach and St. David’s Beach are a 20 minute drive, in St. David’s. In a new 77 acre park called Cooper’s Island (which includes Clearwater beach and the old NASA Station) there is a collection of sparkling sand beaches and endless horizons, turtles, groves of native trees and flowers- just spell binding

The former capital of Bermuda, the Town of St. George’s is just a 5 minute walk away, but will take you back nearly 400 years to 1612. Sites to see, all within walking distance of the property, include: St. Peter’s Church, The Stella Maris Catholic Church, St. George’s Town Square, The Unfinished Church, Fort St. Catherine’s, Deliverance Ship Replica, Somers Gardens, and St. David’s Lighthouse.

The town of St. George’s is the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the English New World. There is a fine park behind the town, gorgeous gardens and churches to explore.

Buses run into Hamilton and beyond to the fabled south shore coastal beaches, Somerset and Dockyard, and there is a ferry service into Hamilton as well. As the island is only 22 miles long, even at the sedate pace of 14 to 20 miles an hour, you can explore the entire island comfortably from your taxi, on the mopeds or by public transportation. These services include excellent bus and ferry service into Hamilton and a shuttle service which will take you around the St. George’s area.

The Mid Ocean Golf Course and Tucker’s Point Resort are less than 15 minutes away by taxi or by bus, and there is Ocean View in Devonshire and the Princess, Belmont and Riddells Bay courses as well as Port Royal as you proceed west along the island.

Suggested St. George’s Restaurants:

1. Wahoos – food is excellent
  2. White Horse Tavern – great tavern food
  3. Griffins Bistro – food is excellent
  4. Mama Angies – good down home Bermuda Cooking
  5. Wong Golden Dragon – great take out

A boat rental or charter will permit you to explore the wonderful collection of islands, bird sanctuaries, old forts and spectacular beaches that are situated in the Castle Harbour area. You can drift down the coast and admire the palaces of Tucker’s Town where the elite from around the world have built their luxurious hideaways. With a picnic and a case of cool drinks, this could be the most relaxed day of your vacation.
