Nearby Attractions:

Grocery stores and little restaurants are a short 5 minute drive away with fabulous dining options in Somerset Village, Dockyard, and at the many fine restaurants down the south shore including Pompano, The Reefs, Henry VIII, The Fairmont Southampton (5 restaurants there including the fabled Newport Room), the Waterlot Inn, and many others.

Interesting places to see in the vicinity would include Dockyard. The extraordinary installation features a collection of spectacular buildings erected for navy re-provisioning in the very early 1800’s. The Maritime Museum out at Dockyard on Ireland Island has fascinating displays of items from Bermuda’s extraordinarily colorful past, fully restored. The Commissioners House is an iron structure with the most commanding view of the island to be seen anywhere- from end to end. Other handsome buildings now house art galleries, museums, cafes, artist’s workshops, theatres, and pubs as well as a major ferry stop that will whisk you into Hamilton and on to St. George’s. Heading east by road towards Hamilton, you will be charmed with the town of Somerset - it has a post office and pharmacy, nice places to dine, and little shops where you can re-provision while admiring the views and the mangrove-edged beach. Ely’s Harbour at Somerset Bridge has a small marina where you can rent boats and explore the multitude of small islands just offshore including Cathedral Rocks. A bus-ferry pass to get around would be a good thing to have if mopeds or Twizy rentals are not your style!

The Fairmont Southampton Golf Course and Port Royal are both in the western end of the island.

House rentals require a lease and a security damage deposit. The balance payment is made 8 weeks in advance of the tenancy commencement. We read the electricity meter at the beginning and at the end of your visit: included in the price is $200.00 a week’s worth of power and if you go over that, the overage is deducted from the damage deposit. Electricity costs 330% more in Bermuda than in the USA, and you are requested and expected to conserve by turning off air-conditioning when you go out, hanging clothes on the line to dry whenever possible, etc. Included is an allotment of $200.00 a week’s worth of water as well. We just ask you to respect island conservation measures at all times.

There is a boat rental a minute walk down the street at the dock in Mangrove Bay. Lasers, kayaks, Boston Whalers, and all the snorkel gear you’ll need for rent is available there. We recommend Oleander Cycles as they have a kiosk next door at the Cambridge Beach Hotel and will also deliver.

Discount rate available for families and groups for Segway tours, must be 16 yrs and over. This can be arranged with the owner when booking.

Lovely vacation

This pretty house is in a lovely location, just close enough to the beach to make it feel like it’s in the back garden. The property is quite large and lovely to roam around in. The patio has a large and comfortable table with many seats around it under a gorgeous giant shade tree. Our family spent more time there at mealtimes than inside the house in the equally beautiful dining room. The house is spacious with doors separating most rooms making it convenient to turn on an air condition just in the room where you might currently need it the most - - a very smart energy-saving idea. Leaving doors open to the outdoors provides easy cross ventilation most of the time though, requiring the AC only sporadically. Each bedroom is spacious and each bed supremely comfortable. Every bathroom is updated and sparkling clean. The master bath is beautifully done up and the master bedroom is spacious and comfortable. Our family of six fit really well with lots of room left over in the house. The cottage on the property is darling - - comfortable, roomy, open and self-sufficient, with its own updated bath and kitchen. The house is beautifully and comfortably furnished with photos, paintings, art books and art pieces everywhere you look. The kitchen is delightful. It is well appointed with top quality appliances, cookware and cooks’ tools. The dinnerware, serve-ware and glassware are very good quality, and there is plenty of each for a house full of people. Best of all is the host. The homeowner is a consummate host - professional, thoughtful, patient and kind. He gave us information about local restaurants and places to visit, provided information about rental vehicles (scooters, bikes, cars and boats!) and offered suggestions for things we might do locally and elsewhere on the island. We had the most lovely vacation and are already planning our return.
