Interesting places to see in the vicinity would include Dockyard. The extraordinary installation features a collection of spectacular buildings erected for navy re-provisioning in the very early 1800’s. The Maritime Museum out at Dockyard on Ireland Island has fascinating displays of items from Bermuda’s extraordinarily colorful past, fully restored. The Commissioners House is an iron structure with the most commanding view of the island to be seen anywhere- from end to end. Other handsome buildings now house art galleries, museums, cafes, artist’s workshops, theatres and pubs as well as a major ferry stop that will whisk you into Hamilton and on to St. George’s. Heading east by road towards Hamilton, you will be charmed with the town of Somerset- it has a post office and pharmacy, nice places to dine and little shops where you can re-provision while admiring the views and the mangrove-edged beach. Ely’s Harbour at Somerset Bridge has a small marina where you can rent boats and explore the multitude of small islands just offshore including Cathedral Rocks. A bus-ferry pass to get around would be a good thing to have if mopeds are not your style!

The Railway Trail is nearby as well, and offers a peek into Old Bermuda, as the trail wends away from the main road and past some fascinating old homes and farms with jaw dropping views. The grand beaches at Horseshoe, Warwick Long Bay and Elbow are a short bus or moped ride away and some are serviced public beaches with cafes, beach chair and umbrella rentals available. The Watford Bridge terminal is half a mile walk away. The local Supermarket is close by as well and spirits are sold until 9pm, and groceries can be purchased there until midnight. Casual dining can be enjoyed at “Traditions Café” or the “Country Squire Restaurant” and the “Frog and Onion Pub” and the “Freeport Restaurant” is 10 minutes away at Dockyard.

The Fairmont Southampton Golf Course, Port Royal and Riddells Bay are all in the western end of the island. The Somerset Bridge Post Office has free internet for people who do not have a laptop.

W31 – is a fabulous house! Gave me a good sense of living in the tropics – all OPEN and, when there was a breeze, the house is situated beautifully to catch it. The fact that the doors were all open all day – and we kept the air-conditioning off in the bedrooms except when we were in them allowed us to imagine how it would have been living there long ago too. It was perfect for our big group dinners to eat outside on the big porch – but we only cooked for the big group one night (BBQd steak, frozen potato slices, salad, canned baked beans (SIMPLE!) and the other two with everyone there were catered by Livio and Raj – who I highly recommend!
NICE that [the owner] has two refrigerators! And the TVs he had just installed were wonderful for the Olympics.
Loved the walk to the beach – and the beach. All in all – everything was a big success I think.
And again – our big helpers were Karen, [the home owner], Melvin, Raj/Livio and, W31’s marvelous housekeeper Liz. Thanks and Kudos to them – and to you for all your good advice in advance!
At home I bought 25 Omaha filet steaks wrapped in bacon for $200 (their best bargain) . We wrapped them in 4 smaller packs – each with a small freezer pac (4×6) and wrapped in bubble wrap – and back into the freezer. Then the afternoon we were leaving – put them in a duffle wrapped in old beach towels which we left there. We checked all the luggage and then we took a red-eye from SF to Newark; waited there 5 hours – then flew to Bermuda and drove to the house. Steaks were still completely frozen – just as if they been in a freezer the whole time! )

W31 is a must! Our extended family of 12 arrived for a week’s vacation in Bermuda!
This home was spacious, comfortable, with exquisitely maintained Bermudian décor. Best of all was the lovely large front porch.
We spent evenings sitting on the porch watching stars and listening to the peepers. It was a short walk to the beautiful beach and a few blocks to the bus stop.
The owner even stopped by to answer any questions we had regarding the home and Bermuda
Overall our family couldn’t have been happier with their experience in Bermuda.
    We will return!!

We had a lovely time. We enjoyed how secluded the house felt, and that it is located in a non-touristy part of the island.

We have just returned from our stay at the Cambridge House in Bermuda. The experience was very satisfactory. The chef that you recommended was also very satisfactory. Melvin Overbridge provided the taxi service in a timely fashion.

We were a group of 17 people and able to all stay in one house on the beach in Bermuda this summer due to W31. We were celebrating a 50th Wedding Anniversary with the parents and their 3 sons families, ages ranging from 6 months to about 74 years. This is a huge house and gave everyone a spot to get away as well as the big front porch to gather together on – one end had large dining tables and the other a generous sectional and chairs. It was August and quite warm but the air conditioners all worked and cooled the rooms for comfortable sleeping. The best part was the beach access – this made the vacation. The garden path is rather long but we loved this part and felt like locals more than tourist winding down the back pathways. And then to come out on the Cambridge Beaches Resort beach is just breathtaking. The Resort has some of their chairs at the end of the beach for this house to use and be off to ourselves. It is a 13 and older resort so we did have to ensure our children did not take their floats or use the chairs too close to the resort. But the hotel servers could not have been nicer and they actually came down and brought us menus and cocktails and made it a first class experience! I don’t think it is hotel policy to do this but I think it just goes to show the Bermudian hospitality. The water at the beach is the bluest blue, exceptionally warm water and very shallow so you could literally just sit in the water and loll the day away. The sand area is narrow at high tide but it fits your beach lounger just fine and is very nice sand. We did cater our dinners most nights and breakfasts and always had leftovers so there was very little in the way of cooking but it appeared to be well outfitted and the 2 refrigerators was nice. We walked to the market which has everything you need and met a neighbor (who owns the Somerset Country Squire Restaurant) who gave us a ride back with our groceries! This part of Bermuda seemed very relaxed and filled with locals. No slack and ties unless maybe you go to the resort for a fine dinner. All in all it is a great house and we felt forturnate that it was available and we could all stay together for a lovely holidy in Bermuda

Your gathering sounds very much like the one I am planning THIS August in W31. Can you please tell me WHO was the caterer for your dinners?? (I think we will each fix out own breakfasts – but not the dinners.
      THANKS !

Just wanted to say thanks for finding us the house in Bermuda.
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip and the house was more than adequate, plenty of space, clean and close to the Cambridge beach.
All of the people we interacted with were super friendly and very helpful. Butch (Melvin Outerbridge) greeted us at the airport and arranged our transportation flawlessly to and from the airport and the owner was very a gracious host and answered all our questions as well as giving us some good tips on what to do and where to go.
We also had a chef over a couple nights who was a great guy and he kept our large group fed and happy on those occasions.

All in all a great experience so I would certainly consider coming back again.

The information you provided on things to do ,ferrys and bus stops, beaches moped and boat rentals, etc. was outstanding and made the visit an easy and happy one. Butch Outerbridge was a fine introduction to the island and provided
a wealth of information on our trip from plane to house.
It was a wonderful, unforgettable week . We have even begun to think of making plans for our next visit. thank you

Thanks to the fruits of my career, my family and I have been able to stay at fine hotels and condos from Hawaii through the Caribbean and Europe. This place is not the ritz carlton, but it has a magical character and privateness perfect for a large group

If you are looking for a great house for a large group/family to stay in and have fun, this is perfect. If you want casual, this is the place for a restful, tropical time.We came with 3 children and 11 adults. The front veranda is a perfect place for all to gather, as it is surrounded by incredible fauna. The inside rooms are nicely appointed, and the upstairs bedroom are private. The beach really is just a 5-10 min incredible walk through a jungle like path. The beach is beautiful and the water perfect for the children to play in as the sand stretches far out from shore very gradually. The little ones played constantly on the waters edge. This is a walk- around- in- your- shorts- and- tshirt place given the climate with air conditioning limited to the bedrooms which makes it nice for a goodnights sleep. The owner was very helpful when asked for anything. We worked hard at rinsing our feet after going to the beach to keep the sand down and watched our water usage and only lost a small part of our security deposit because of a lost key.

The Cambridge house was the perfect accomodations for my extended family of 12. This last family reunion was extremely important to my family after a tough year of challenges and losing one of our loved ones. We needed Bermuda beauty, space, privacy, convenience and good overall value. The Cambridge House provided and delivered the total package for us. Thank you [to the home owner] for this magical and healing island home and property. And thank you Fiona for taking such great care of the reservations and our other needs. I highly recommend this property for those looking for similar criteria. We hope to stay there again as a group very soon.

I wanted to write a more personal note to thank you for all your help and guidance – the most important of which was nudging us toward W31 as our choice. You were so right. It suited our family with small children perfectly. The choice of 7 bedrooms made nap time stress free (end of the house or in the dark ground level) and our evening dinners on the veranda were the highlight of each day.

Your suggestions to bring frozen meats in a suitcase seemed weird to me at first, but what a lifesaver it was. We ate every meal at home – did not step into one restaurant during our entire stay. It saved us tons of money and our meals were fabulous, relaxed, long and enjoyable. We didn’t bother any other diners either!

The beach was outstanding. The gentle entry was perfect for the small children and they loved the walk through the “secret forest” to get there. We enjoyed every inch of the separate gardens. Water pistol battles one day, bubble blowing the next, lounging in the hammock or kicking a soccer ball around on other days. We made it to Dockyard twice (had a great round of Fun Golf with the adults) and took the ferry to Hamilton on another day.

Stores (for fresh veggies, wine and beer), post office (for bus/ferry tickets) and pharmacy (one case of local fish allergic reaction averted) were a short walk away. Even the nearby Dollar Store provided the birthday trappings for my husband’s 70th celebration at dinner mid-week.

The home owners were ever-ready to answer our questions, bring us anything we needed, and answer our questions. He even drove us to the store the first day in his van so we could haul a weeks’ load of groceries back. Actually we made walking trips to the store every day for a few items but the first trip was a lifesaver.

I have already recommended your service to another family and will continue to do so. You’re great ambassadors for Bermuda and I hope you enjoy much continued success in your business.

We had a wonderful time in Bermuda in October for our 40th Wedding anniversary. There were seven of us and we had plenty of bedrooms and space for all of us.This is lovely old Bermuda House that has been updated with AC and WiFi. The dinning room, bedrooms and kitchen were top notch. The property has beach rights with the next door Cambridge Beach Resort so we had a beautiful beach. The owner could not have been nicer. For a large group looking to stay in a lovely Grand Bermuda House, this is the place.

Our family reunion at W31 was truly one of the most magical vacations of my life. I was in love even before I stepped inside, because the grounds are spectacular, a tropical wonderland. The deep, gracious front porch is a natural gathering spot, and where we ate all our meals. The big lovely dining room table became the card-playing place, and of course there was plenty of casual conversation at the small table in the big, fully-equipped kitchen. The bedrooms are gorgeous, and there are plenty of bathrooms. And just a little way past the enchanted little backyard (complete with outdoor shower to wash away the beach sand before going inside) is a pathway leading to Cambridge Beaches and their beautiful extensive gardens.
In addition to its gracious beauty, the house is clean and fully stocked. I loved every minute I spent there, just as much as I did running around my beloved Bermuda, my childhood home. I can’t wait to come back to W31.

I just wanted to express my thanks to you and the homeowner] for a wonderful vacation at this house in Bermuda. The house was immaculate and interesting. We loved the shopping cart in the front yard. Pushed it down the hill to the market filled it and pushed it back. The beach was lovely and inviting in the heat and humidity. We took advantage of the breezes bar every afternoon and voted it best Dark and Stormy’s in Bermuda.

This Cambridge house is truly the jewel of Bermuda. Twelve of my family vacationed in Bermuda to celebrate the college graduations of my granddaughter and niece on July 2012. Bermuda is breathtakingly beautiful and having the Cambridge house as our home away from home made this the vacation of a lifetime. Fiona and Bermuda Rentals were wonderful throughout the rental process right on through to the full refund of our deposit. Planning a vacation for 12 people entailed countless questions. My e-mails and phone calls were answered in a helpful, friendly manner.

This home is elegant yet inviting and comfortable. We hadn’t planned to have so many meals at ‘home’ but the veranda was such a beautiful setting, we dined on ‘our own’ porch often. Every morning and evening’s end was spent on that wonderful veranda. The kitchen is large and equipped with everything you could need or want. There is even a second kitchen on the other side of the house but we didn’t need to use that one. We enjoyed using the outdoor barbeque, located right off the main kitchen. The five bedrooms upstairs have private bathrooms and most also have an exit to the outdoors (handy for back and forth from the beach). The three semi-private bedrooms downstairs share a bathroom.

The Cambridge House is located near the Cambridge Beaches Resort. We walked over to dance and dine there a couple of times. The first night on the island we walked to The Somerset Restaurant and stopped on the way home to pick up groceries. The next morning we picked up our 6 mopeds from Orleander Cycles (they have a rental office right next door at Cambridge Beaches Resort…call ahead for reservation). The rest of week we toured the island and its gorgeous beaches (Bermuda beaches will spoil you for life!) via moped. This is the fun and fancy-free way to travel the island but you must be hale and hardy to navigate. I was a passenger! There is a great bus system throughout the island for the less brave. Several of us took the ferry from Dockyard to St. George and Hamilton.

We highly recommend Cambridge House…just don’t book “our week”. We’ll be back!

Our stay at [W31] in Bermuda was a very pleasant experience. The house was a grand old Bermudian house which was furnished in very fine, lovely furniture which made our stay very comfortable. The house was very spacious in that we all felt comfortable with the layout and never felt crowded because of the large front porch, the large dining room and large bedrooms, which all had their own baths. We all had a wonderful time there and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a house to rent in Bermuda.

We all (8) had a wonderful time. The house was perfect for our needs – very comfortable and spacious. We especially enjoyed breakfast on the front porch and afternoon adult beverages that our children and their spouses blended. The house was very convenient to the beach, restaurants, grocery stores and bus lines. All of our three adult children rented scooters and used them extensively. On Friday some of us went by ferry into Hamilton for lunch and shopping, others played golf and lay on the beach. Friday night we had dinner at Mickey’s next to beach, with the moon shimmering across the waves. On Saturday, our children chartered a 46 foot sail boat right there at Cambridge Beach Resort. We had a wonderful 4-hour excursion – touring and snorkeling in the vicinity of Hamilton. All in all, a most memorable visit and we all look forward to returning to Bermuda.
